Sharing love and faith by gathering and serving in our communities to address Health, Habitation, and Hunger. RiverWorks Serve Day was established in 2012 and has been a launching point for community development work.

SAVE THE DATE | MAY 22, 2027

RiverWorks Serve Day is a community-wide day of service focused on helping our neighbors and making a difference right here in our community. We are already beginning to plan for 2027 and are looking for people who would like to be part of the planning team for this annual event.

Same heart. New name. Same mission to serve our community.

In 2026 we made the transition from Thousand Hearts Serve Day to RiverWorks Serve Day.

While the name has changed, the vision has not, bringing people together to serve, support, and show up for our community in a big way. The “hearts” behind this day are still beating strong and every year, they grow.

2026 Serve Day

May 9th was RiverWorks Serve Day 2026!
A huge thank you to our amazing community of sponsors and volunteers who helped make the day a success! We are so grateful to McDonald’s of Buffalo and Billy’s Rockford Bar for providing breakfast, and to the Rockford Lions
for sponsoring the A1C testing. We also want to thank every volunteer who showed up to serve and support our community. Your time, generosity, and willingness to help make a meaningful difference for our neighbors.

Thousand Hearts 365 exists to address community needs as they arise throughout the year. Volunteers can sign up to be ready to serve on an on-call and project-driven basis.

A few examples of the work done through 365:

  • Overseeing the restoration of the Rockford Mural at Bridge and Mechanic Streets in Rockford. A professional mural artist guided a group of twelve volunteers of all ages as they worked together to bring the mural back to life.

  • A senior in our community may need help with lawn or home chores, 365 is able to connect people and acts as a resource to match those looking for volunteer opportunities to a community need.

  • Help provide volunteers to assist with local Red Cross Blood Drives
  • Since 2012 we have been facilitating a weekly gathering at Maple Hill Estates Mobile Home Park in Corcoran. They meet once a week for coffee, donuts, and good fellowship.
Interested in sponsoring one or many of these gatherings with a $25 donation? Please contact Denise Kesanen to set up a donation.
